Message from the Editors

Hi folks,

Remember us? Of course you do. It’s us, your friendly neighbourhood editors.  We’ve certainly come a long way this year but mostly, we were focussed on finishing grade 12. So if you were underwhelmed by the amount of content, why don’t you try writing some? (For real, The Voice needs writers for next year, this is only kind of a threat)!

Back in 2020, when we were in 10th grade and in quarantine, we met on Danica’s front lawn to eat TimTams and plan what greatness The Voice had in store. Both of us had been writing for a few years before Nathaniel graduated and bequeathed The Vic Voice unto us. We discussed community involvement, spreading the word about important Edmontonians, and tried to figure out how the hell we were going to do this. Looking back, we think we did a pretty good job.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the content we’ve created which, for the most part, is the result of many very long phone calls and shared Google Docs titled the entirety of  “Heaven is a Place on Earth” by Belinda Carlile. We hope we’ve been an important part of connecting our school community. From interviewing Janis Irwin to connecting with community members and, of course, reviewing the worst movies we could get our hands on, we hope you’ve enjoyed our stay here (we sure have).

It’s our time to go and move on to new horizons, but the sun won’t set on The Vic Voice. As Nathaniel once did, we now bequeath the newspaper onto Mira El Achhab, whose work you may have seen recently on the site.

It’s been our pleasure to run this site for so long. If you’ve contributed at all, we want to thank you for having faith in us and our silly little newspaper. From two writers: there is nothing more gratifying than having your work appreciated and read. Leaving the Vic community is hard for both of us, but it’s time to say goodbye.

So, I guess this is goodbye.

Sincerely,

Danica Friss Wilson and Grace Tunski

Oh yeah, and as for next year:

Grace is going from being Vic’s all-star Valedictorian to adventuring in Kelowna at the University of British Columia to study ecology and evolutionary biology. Basically, she’s being super smart and doing what she loves, which is incredible if you ask me. Her free time will be spent doing as many mushroom related activities as possible as well as any other cool club you can think of. Grace Taylor Tunski is destined for greatness, which she will be busy accomplishing for the next couple of years (but if you’re lucky she might take time out of her full schedule to sign an autograph). She’s still @you.ve_been_graced on Instagram, make sure to blow her up.

Danica will be setting off to Montreal to take McGill by storm. She plans to major in anthropology, as all cool people do. Danica Friss Wilson is certainly a name you should remember, as it will be attached to many outstanding accomplishments in the coming years. Although she is graduating from the Victoria community, she will certainly be hailed as a kind and aggressively accurate student who has truly changed the school for the better. Get a load of what she has to offer on Instagram @bugsncheese, you won’t want to miss it.
