Edmonton Stingers Host a Successful Season Opener

Edmonton Stingers Host a Successful Season Opener

On Friday May 10th, the Edmonton Stingers faced off against the Niagara River Lions in their first game. This is the first year for the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) and if the Stinger’s first game is any indication, the league is looking at a very successful year.

Although the Northlands Expo Centre was only about a third full (as is to be expected for their first-ever game), fans were excited and engaged the entire time. The game was fast-paced and showcased just how much skill the players on both teams have. The game ended up going into overtime, with Edmonton taking the win (118-105).

Edmonton’s point guard, Xavier Moon, was clearly the star of the game. He was easily the fastest player on the court, and was racking up points throughout the game. Not only is he a great shooter, but Moon was also making great plays on defense and hooking up his teammates with spectacular assists. By the end of the game, the crowd would chant “Moon” over and over after he made a basket. Xavier Moon and the Stingers are surely the team to watch this season.
