Meet Your Teachers: Ms. Boulter

One of Victoria’s newest teachers is Miss Boulter. Not many students know a lot about her, even the students that see her everyday. In this article, we covered some questions that you may have about Miss Boulter. If you want to get to know the teacher that teaches, Grade 7 Humanities, and English 30-2, keep reading.

She became a teacher due to the fact that everyone told her she would make a great teacher because she has such a young spirit. “...and I do love it. Like, I get to spend every single day with people who are like me and it’s less about the teaching and just being around amazing people.. and young people who inspire me.”

As a kid, she was a teacher’s pet at school. She didn’t realize it until she was older and now, it makes her embarrassed thinking about it. She enjoyed school, not because of the learning but because she loved her friends and her teachers. She enjoyed her drama and art classes. It was a great way to socialize and be around other interesting people.

While a child, Miss Boulter was convinced that she would be an actress. She took voice lessons, drama lessons, theatre classes. She even applied to be in a Grant Macewan theatre arts school, but unfortunately didn’t get in. She thought she would be famous, and in Hollywood.  Then she became more interested in anthropology, (the study of humans and evolution). She then eventually found that if she was a teacher, she could do all of that. She teaches Social and talks about people, and she gets to act and inspire all her students.

Her favourite part of teaching is when students come and visit her outside of class, and come say hi. Whether it's after school, or at lunch, she enjoys it. It makes her feel loved and she loves them.

Her biggest influence in her life has been her pets. She didn’t really grow up until she needed to take care of someone and her pets were that person for her. Her cat and dog showed her what it means to be held responsible for someone and that helped her be more responsible for her students. She wasn’t capable of doing that until her pets really relied on her support to live.

Miss Boulter’s opinion on the budget cuts is a little biased due to the fact that she is a teacher. She’s against the budget cuts. “However, as a society our number one priority is our children, is young people, is youth, and if we aren’t doing everything we can to support them and make them feel like they can be successful adults, then we have to change what we’re doing.”

A secret about Miss Boulter is her Disney/childhood crush, is Jafar. It may be surprising to some that she didn’t choose a prince, or even the main character in that movie, Aladdin. It’s a little strange, but I find it pretty interesting that for once, someone didn’t have a crush on Prince Eric.

Miss Boulter’s favourite TV shows are Love Is Blind, Ru Paul’s Drag Race (she just finished this season) and The Office. Everyday she watches The Office, whether it’s while she’s doing stuff, or she’s just sitting down. She’s watched the show so many times but it’s comforting to rewatch it. She wishes she could say she’s Pam, but instead, she’s probably Kevin (which there’s nothing wrong with).

A final piece of advice (courtesy of Miss Boulter)

“Try to find a way to show yourself love everyday. Whether that’s telling yourself that you love yourself, or that you’re beautiful, or that you’re intelligent, or that you’re talented. Or just doing something kind for yourself everyday, and it won’t be easy, but it’s important to make sure that you find the time for yourself. There’s nothing more important, then making sure you take care of you.”

Miss Boulter wishes that she had told herself this when she was younger, because she didn’t take care of herself and now she’s seen the kind of consequences that can have. She never thought she was enough so she hopes that all of her students feel that they are enough and they are exceptional.

Hopefully now you feel you know more about Miss Boulter. I know I do.
